Baldur's Gate 3 hides many secrets and even when the treasure is in plain sight, you will need to do an extra few steps to get it.
This was the case with the first major (potential) enemy you encounter and the treasure behind her. The owlbear can be found in a cave that is close to a group of cultists that can be turned into allies for that particular fight, should you choose to have it.
Behind the owlbear is a Gilded Chest that holds a few treasures but it is locked and damages anyone attempting to open it. To get the goodies, you will need to break its seal.
Getting to the chest
There are two options to get to the Gilded Chest - fight the owlbear or sneak past it. If you brought the weirdos whose friend was killed by the owlbear, the fight is feasible but otherwise, it can be very challenging.
If you want to sneak past, initiate the dialogue with the owlbear and then use the other characters to sneak past it. While you are in dialogue, there will be a "Switch Character" option in the bottom right that lets you switch to someone else. Make sure you are sneaking and press left Shift key to see the lines of sight in order to avoid them and sneak past successfully. There is a rock formation that you can climb to minimise the chance of being seen.
Breaking the Selunite Seal
You will need to pass Perception and Religion checks in order to get the chest's contents. The first Religion check will pop up as you get close to the chest and the character that passes it will tell you it's Selune's statue in the cave, which is a subtle hint on what to do.
When you are standing close to the chest, you will need to use Jump to get across the chasm and next to the statue.
Move behind the statue to get to the Perception check which will reveal a piece of paper on the ground. You may need to do this with multiple characters, in case the first jumpers fail the Perception check. Repeat it until the paper shows up.
Then you will need to left-click on the paper and pass a Religion check. Whichever character succeeds in the Religion check should be the one to pick the paper up. In order to pick it up you will need to right-click it on the ground and then use the drop-down menu option to pick it up.
With the paper in your inventory, jump back to the chest's side and move the character that carries it close to the container. Open their inventory, right-click the Selunite Prayer and read it. Close the prayer and inventory UI and the chest will be unlocked.
In case you didn't kill the owlbear cub, you will be able to meet it a few times more in the future.
