Having been added to the Public Test Realm some twenty days ago, Blizzard decided it's been enough stewing for Overwatch's new assault map Paris. The update also brings a significant change in prioritisation of shields, armour and health.
Paris comes with way less fanfare than Overwatch's last map, as Busan came with a D.Va animated short and the control point map basically kicked off the game's fan festival in Korea.
Paris, on the other hand, is an assault map and as you can see - it's got plenty of sightseeing material. Blizzard made sure the view's just peachy by following Hollywood's traditional cinematographic principles, which state - if you can't see the Eiffel Tower, you're not in Paris.
Overwatch players start at Cabaret Luna, where "the velvety alto voice of preeminent diva Luna charms movie stars, revolutionaries, locals, and tourists alike."
The path to the first point is all about narrow streets and close, loving relationships between opposing Overwatch teams. Once you're done duking it out in the narrow passages, the view opens up on the banks of the Seine.
"Once you establish dominance over your adversaries, make your way to Maison Marat and deliver the coup-de-grace", Blizzard said. We were half expecting 'em to offer us a croissant.
The trailer doesn't prominently feature the main star of the map though, as it isn't diva Luna - it's the piano. It's actually playable and if you get a few buddies with good timing, you'll be playing meme songs in no time.
Along with the map come the changes in prioritisation of health when taking damage, which simply changes the order in which recoverable and non-recoverable shields and health are deduced.
"Previously, it was possible for heroes' recoverable shields to be prioritised for damage and regeneration, allowing their non-recoverable armour to persist. With the order adjustment, heroes who have been granted non-recoverable armour or shields will now consume those resources before recoverable health, armour, or shields", Blizzard wrote in the patch notes.
