World of Warcraft is one of the biggest MMORPGs in the world but is yet to come to PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Players have been asking for the port for many, many years but Blizzard are yet to confirm that such version is in development.
However, now that the studio is part of Microsoft, things could change. When asked if there is any update on the potential console version of World of Warcraft, Blizzard replied that they talk about that all the time, especially now that Microsoft is their parent company.
The Blizzard executives added that the studio is now well-positioned to work on such a release, which is why they are actively talking about it. Judging by their comments, it does look like the console port is now closer to become a reality.
However, Blizzard heads did not say World of Warcraft is currently in development for consoles so it may take a while until we get that official announcement, that will certainly make WoW fans go nuts. When the console port gets announced eventually, we expect to see full mouse and keyboard support but also an easy controller implementation, which is probably the biggest hurdle in brining such a game to the console.
It will be interesting to see how Microsoft handles such a version, too. Will they make it exclusive to Xbox Series X|S and leave PlayStation players raging or perhaps look at the bigger picture and release on all platforms to increase revenue from subscriptions. Time will tell.
Blizzard recently announced three major expansions that will be released in the coming years so it's safe to say that they have big plans for their fantasy MMO which is not slowing down even almost twenty years since the initial release in 2004.
