In case you're out of the loop, Epic Games re-introduced Fortnite's original map to the game a couple of days ago, which turned out to be one of the smartest moves of the year in the gaming industry.
The "Fortnite OG" as the new mode is called, has attracted over 5 million concurrent players and a total of 44.7 million players in one day, Epic Games announced.
It's a staggering success that no one saw coming but it goes to show just how much love Fortnite players have for the game's roots when everything was much simpler and we'd dare to say more enjoyable.
In the official announcement on social media X, Epic Games also revealed that they recorded over 102 million hours of play in Fortnite on Saturday.
"Way to start things off with a big bang We're blown away by the response to FortniteOG. Yesterday was the biggest day in Fortnite’s history with over 44.7 MILLION players jumping in and 102 MILLION hours of play," Epic Games wrote on X.
No game ever came close to reaching these numbers before, which truly makes Fortnite one of a kind. Obviously, it helps that the game is available on almost every single platform - from Android and iOS to cloud streaming platforms, PCs, consoles and MACs - but this is still a massive record that only Fortnite can probably break in the near future.
All in all, given that the old-school content in Fortnite is doing great, we would not be surprised to see more similar stuff in the coming weeks. Epic will probably want to profit on such a massive spike in player numbers so expect extra cosmetics and store items too.
Fortnite is free-to-play and can be downloaded now across all platforms.
