Key Points from the Article

  • Players will have the option to download the core Call of Duty game or add Warzone separately, giving them more control over storage space.
  • Enhanced texture streaming will be used in future Call of Duty titles, allowing less frequently used content to be streamed over the internet instead of being downloaded all at once.
  • Players will also have the option to switch between "optimized" and "minimum" texture settings to further minimize storage footprint.
  • However, these changes will only take effect after players download a large update, which will be available for download beginning next week.

Activision has announced that future Call of Duty games will no longer be bundled with Warzone, reducing the file size of the game.

In what Activision has said is a welcome change for Call of Duty players, future games in the series will no longer be bundled with Warzone. Now you don't have to download hundreds of gigabytes just to enjoy the latest Call of Duty release.

As of this fall, officially from August 21st, players will not be required to forcefully update the new Call of Duty titles in order to have Warzone. The move is part of a wider Call of Duty content revamp and optimization before the release of Black Ops 6 - all in a bid to trim the humongous file sizes most players have got used to, most of them between 200 and 300 gigabytes.

In the future, you'll be able to decide between a core Call of Duty download or add Warzone if you prefer. This should give you much more control over the storage space on your devices.

Even more so, additional future Call of Duty title series will make use of enhanced texture streaming; less often used in-game content will stream over the internet as one is playing, rather than being downloaded all at once.

There is also an option to switch between "optimized" and "minimum" texture settings that further minimizes storage footprint.

The catch, however, for all these changes is that they are going to come into effect after players download a large update which will be available for download beginning next week.

This update essentially reorganizes the game files and prepares your system for the new setup. If you're gaming on PlayStation, be prepared for an even lengthier process as the update comes in four separate downloads before being able to launch the game.

This shift by Activision is supposed to finally respond to the long-standing complaints of the summarized storage requirements of Call of Duty games, providing a much more streamlined and customizable experience for players.
