In a recent developer stream, Digital Extremes showed off Warframe's upcoming frame called Baruuk, whom they call the reluctant warrior, and the initial reveal was done via some quite stunning images that were made by the game's fanbase.
What Digital Extremes did was send their artistically inclined fans the concept art of Baruuk, which they interpreted and remade as they saw fit. There are plenty of styles included, from more traditional painting ones to Tarot style ones. Yes, there is an anime version of Baruuk as well, which you can check out in our gallery below.
Warframe's design director Scott McGregor said that Baruuk was envisioned as a warframe that's different from all the others, "something like more of a pacifist or more like a reluctant hero". In a manner of Keanu Reeves in John Wick or Denzel Washington in The Equalizer, Digital Extremes wanted one of those "guys that are really, really kickass but kind of trying to get past that ".
McGregor said that "most of his power set is about mitigating damage and deflecting damage", suggesting that Baruuk isn't about raw damage output. However, he also said that the new warframe has a tipping point after which "it's beatdown time".
Baruuk features asymmetrical design, with very cloth-like lines, as well as a man bun, which officially debuts in Warframe, jiggle and everything. The game's creative director Steve Sinclair said the team drew inspiration from African nomadic tribes, most notably Sudanese tribes, and we'd say they've done pretty well in that respect.
Digital Extremes will be revealing more of Baruuk in one of their upcoming development streams, when we should know more on the reluctant warrior's skillset. What they did say though is that we'll be seeing him added to Warframe before Christmas, so it won't be long.
As for the artwork below, we must admit that Warframe community's artistic output is really a joy to behold. We imagine some of the pieces took quite some time to complete, once again showing Warframe fans don't shy away from
The announcement of Baruuk starts at 16:46, while his in-game look is at 21:22 on the video above.
