Anthem's DLC won't be like Andromeda's according to BioWare

Mass Effect Andromeda launched with abysmal reception, which is what BioWare's general manager addressed in his blog post about fans' concerns with Anthem's DLC and whether story content will be added as opposed to Mass Effect: Andromeda.

BioWare's General Manager Casey Hudson recently addressed the issue of DLCs in their next game, Anthem. He used Mass Effect: Andromeda's shoddy launch and short lifespan as a reference.

Hudson stated that after returning to BioWare last year, he saw the team was disappointed they could not provide players with additional story content for Andromeda.

This time around, they promise to do better. "We need to delight players with new experiences and innovation, but we must stay focused on the importance of the world, character, and storytelling elements that players expect from our games.", said Hudson in a recently.

This sounds like a wonderful speech coming from BioWare's top echelon. What we cannot forget, however, is that even with all their promises, this remains a way for the company to place DLCs on a platter for consumers willing to dish out more cash to experience the full game.

EA Anthem -

BioWare promises a full story experience for Anthem to enjoy with your friends. Whether this "full" experience includes the DLC plan or not is unclear, as similar games like Destiny also promised a full story experience. Being a subsidiary of EA, we can expect Anthem to feel complete once all the additional content arrives.

These decisions don't come as a surprise, due to games as a live service have been running rampant in the gaming industry for quite some time, with behemoth companies like Ubisoft, Activision Blizzard and EA being pioneers in the idea. What live services entail for companies are fewer games to develop, but more content for them. Paid content mainly, if we may speak plainly.

EA Anthem - Flying like Iron Man seems like a good thing, right?

Anthem was revealed on E3 2017 and has a planned release for 2019. BioWare have promised the game will be updated with more in-game features during its 10 year-long journey. The title might appear at E3 2018 with additional gameplay trailers.
