Epic's Store has stepped on the pedal when it comes to free games, as well as some holiday discounts, and after the excellent Into the Breach comes another gem - Towerfall Ascension, the game you owe to yourself to try against soon to be former friends.
"TowerFall Ascension is the definitive version of the hit archery combat game. Inspired by classics from the golden age of couch multiplayer, it's a 4-player local party game centering around hilarious, intense versus matches", the description reads and when it comes to the part about hilarious versus matches - it's probably an understatement.
We're talking about the sort of experience you're familiar with if you played Overcooked - the dying breed of games that's best played on the couch. Even the developer suggests playing within striking distance of your buddies.
TowerFall Ascension is a deceptively simple brawler that follows the easy-to-learn-hard-to-master formula. The pixelated graphics add a really whimsical touch to what's actually a really deep game. I mean, you've got to collect the arrows you shoot or you're resigned to being a glorified Super Mario.
If you won't take our word for it, feel free to head on over to TowerFall Ascension Steam page, where it has overwhelmingly positive reviews. Many of them praise the couch co-op potential, rightfully so.
Fun fact - TowerFall originally launched for the Ouya console, later arriving for the rest of the platforms. Not much else to say so enjoy your freebie, but make sure you snap it up quickly because Epic have another one lined up for tomorrow.
