1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past

This was the headline of the night for a lot of people, and it came with a genuine surprise attached. CDPR took the stage at ONL to deliver the first proper in-game footage of Songs of the Past, the full third expansion for The Witcher 3, sending Geralt to a brand new region called Letten. Described as an idyllic land rich in rural tradition that hides a dark secret beneath the surface, it already looks like a worthy final chapter for the White Wolf's story before the franchise moves on to The Witcher 4.

But the bigger news, the thing nobody saw coming, was the announcement of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered alongside it. A free upgrade for all existing owners, Remastered overhauls visuals, lighting, combat, traversal, mount handling, monster behaviours, the skill tree, and more, and it is launching September 29, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Most significantly, it marks the first time the game has ever had a native version on Nintendo Switch 2. Existing owners also get the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine DLCs included at no extra cost.

2. Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Square Enix brought new footage of the final chapter of the Remake trilogy to ONL in the form of a Weapons Gameplay Trailer, diving deeper into the arsenal available aboard the Highwind as Cloud and company traverse the open world of Gaia. The trailer showed off the devastating range of weapons unlocked through progression and offered the clearest look yet at how the game's open-world systems will feed into its combat design. With a spring 2027 release across all platforms simultaneously, it remains one of the most anticipated games in the industry right now.

3. Gears of War: E-Day

The Coalition brought a new cinematic story trailer to ONL that properly introduced the cast of E-Day, including a younger Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago navigating the horror and chaos of Emergence Day across the city of Kalona. The October 6 release date was confirmed once again. This is an Xbox Series X|S and PC exclusive, available from day one through Xbox Game Pass, and it is shaping up as one of the biggest Xbox releases in years.

4. Ananta

One of the most anticipated free-to-play RPGs of the last few years finally has a firm date. After three years since its original reveal as Project Mugen, Ananta confirmed a January 15, 2027 launch at ONL. The trailer showcased Chongxiao, a brand new city inspired by Shanghai and Hangzhou, alongside new companions, flying cars, hang gliders, and a deeper look at the game's kung fu-rooted combat system. The open-world urban RPG launches on PS5 and PC, with mobile versions also in the pipeline.

5. Silent Hill: Townfall

With the game very close to release, Konami and Annapurna brought a new gameplay trailer to ONL that showed protagonist Simon Ordell evading a truly enormous creature through the fog-soaked corridors of the fictional Scottish coastal town of St. Amelia. Developed by Screen Burn Interactive — formerly known as NoCode, the studio behind Observation and Stories Untold — Townfall is a first-person horror game played in 1996, and the trailer made it abundantly clear that whatever is lurking in St. Amelia is something you are not equipped to fight.

6. Tides of Annihilation

The first story trailer for the Arthurian action-adventure, titled "Beneath the Veil," arrived at ONL and did two things at once: it expanded the lore around the dark fog tearing London and Avalon apart, and it confirmed a recasting, with Angela Sant'Albano taking over the role of protagonist Gwendolyn from Jennifer English. The trailer was one of the more striking of the night visually, and the game continues to look like one of the more ambitious action titles in the pipeline.

7. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy

The official launch trailer arrived at ONL with the game just two days from release. Set 15 years before A Plague Tale: Requiem, Resonance follows a new protagonist, Sophia, across a cursed Mediterranean island in a story that spans two timelines: the Middle Ages and the Minoan period. Unlike the previous entries in the series, which leaned heavily on stealth, Resonance is more combat-forward, and Asobo has clearly built around that shift.

8. Crimson Desert Enhanced

Pearl Abyss showed off the Enhanced update for their 2026 open-world action RPG at ONL, adding new story moments and additional voiceover languages to the game. The update is live now and comes with a 20% discount for the duration of Gamescom.

9. Mega Man: Dual Override

Capcom brought a new gameplay trailer to ONL that confirmed Proto Man as a fully playable character and introduced Twinkle Girl, one of the new robot masters standing between Mega Man and Dr. Wily. As a bonus, Capcom also revealed a Mega Man crossover skin for Pragmata. The twelfth mainline Mega Man game remains on track for 2027, and the playable demo on the Capcom booth floor at Gamescom is giving fans their first hands-on time with it.

10. Rayman Legends Retold

Ubisoft's remake of one of the best platformers ever made got a new gameplay trailer at ONL spotlighting the remixed Macarena musical level, rebuilt entirely in 3D and every bit as joyful as the original. The October 1 release date was confirmed alongside the footage, with solo and four-player couch co-op both supported.

11. Worms: Galactic Tactics

The pre-show brought the debut of Worms: Galactic Tactics, the XCOM-style spin-off that takes the beloved franchise into turn-based tactical territory with a galactic setting. It is genuinely fascinating to see one of gaming's most iconic artillery franchises reinvented as a proper tactics game, and the reveal trailer landed well. Team17 also teased during the broadcast that a more traditional Worms game is in development alongside it, so fans of the classic formula are not being left behind.

12. Metro 2039

The second gameplay trailer for 4A Games' next Metro entry, titled "Renegade," arrived at ONL and gave the clearest picture yet of The Stranger, the new protagonist navigating the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow. The trailer covered survival mechanics above and below ground, the game's oppressive atmosphere, and the brutal combat that the series has always done well. A February 2027 release window was reconfirmed.

13. Control Resonant

With less than a month to go until launch, Remedy showed the "Altered State" gameplay trailer at ONL, delivering the most extended look yet at Dylan Faden navigating the paranatural chaos consuming Manhattan. The footage made the game's reality-warping environments and shapeshift-weapon combat look genuinely spectacular, and it confirmed once more that Remedy has built something considerably more ambitious than the first Control. September 24 cannot come soon enough.

14. 1666: Amsterdam

Patrice Désilets brought new footage of 1666: Amsterdam to ONL, showing off more of the supernatural adventure set in 17th-century Amsterdam where you can possess cats and use their perspective to navigate the world. The game is currently available on Steam Early Access, and the ONL segment gave a broader look at how the cat-possession mechanic feeds into solving the game's mysteries and evading enemies.

15. Showa: American Story

A new gameplay trailer for NEKCOM's wildly original action RPG landed at ONL, showing off more of the game's samurai zombie combat system set against the backdrop of a retro Japanese-American pop culture universe soaked in citypop. If you have not been paying attention to Showa: American Story, this trailer is worth finding. There is genuinely nothing else that looks quite like it.

16. Mewgenics

The chaotic cat genetics roguelike from The Binding of Isaac creator Edmund McMillen confirmed its console release date of September 8 at ONL. The Cologne audience also got a live musical performance of one of the game's tracks, which tells you everything about the energy Mewgenics brings with it.

17. Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2

Cold Iron Studios launched their co-op Colonial Marines shooter on the same day as ONL, and the launch trailer aired during the broadcast. The game sends squads back against the Xenomorphs in a new campaign, and a Nintendo Switch 2 version is confirmed for September 29.

18. Aion 2

A new gameplay trailer for NCSoft's large-scale aerial MMORPG confirmed the October 5 release date and showed off more of the faction-based aerial combat that distinguishes it from the crowded MMO field. Flight has always been at the heart of Aion, and the sequel is building everything around that in a way the original could only gesture at.

19. Path of Exile 2

Grinding Gear Games used ONL to confirm the December 11 full 1.0 launch date for Path of Exile 2, ending what has been a lengthy early access period. For the ARPG community, this is the date they have been waiting for, and the team has been using the early access window to aggressively address player feedback ahead of the full launch.
