Ember Lab has officially delayed Kena: Scars of Kosmora to 2027. The studio needed more time to ensure that its sequel would shine, as it introduces players to more of its spiritual world. Kena: Scars of Kosmora was announced during this year’s February Xbox showcase.
While expanding on what made Kena: Bridge of Spirits such a good character-focused adventure, the sequel will also introduce players to larger environments, more exploration, and gameplay depth. Today’s announcement also dives a little deeper into Kena’s story and her journey to the island of Kosmora.
Kena has been a Spirit Guide for years, helping spirits pass into the next life. When spirits are too uncomfortable to move on, their lingering pain can manifest as Corruption, a disease capable of destroying everything in its path.
Recently, Kena has begun to doubt her Spirit Guide powers and feels like she never really faced her own struggles. Kena’s childhood friend Orfio feels that Kosmora may be able to tell them more about their past. Together, they set sail for the island in hopes of learning more about themselves and each other.
Each of Kosmora’s four cornerstones had distinct cultures that revolved around one of four elements. The island’s ancient Spirit Guides built massive Alchemystic Temples and made unique traditions with each elemental focus.
One of Kosmora’s cultures were destroyed in a catastrophic event. As the civilizations’ history was forgotten, much of the island’s spiritual connection to the elements was lost as well. Each civilization still lives by the aspects of their respective elements, but the unknowns of Kosmora’s history still pose a threat to its inhabitants.
Players Can Explore Ancient Temples
Kena will explore each of these elemental forces by visiting Alchemystic Temples. These massive temple dungeons will challenge Kena and reward her with treasures that can alter her abilities and power her onwards.
Outside of these ancient temples, players will also find that Kosmora is filled with living cultures. Each will have their own histories, beliefs, and issues for players to discover. As players progress through the game, they will come across a variety of characters that they will have to learn how to interact with.
Meet Kena’s New Dog Spirit Companion
Players will still be joined by Kori and Bubble, but Kena’s new spirit companion is a dog-like creature made of crystallized energy. The creature has a connection to Kosmora and will play a key role in Kena’s story.
Players won’t just be riding around on this strange canine. It will be able to aid Kena in combat, both on its back and on foot. Players will also use its abilities to solve puzzles within the Alchemystic temples.
With the sizable island of Kosmora to explore, four distinct cultures, elemental puzzles, and a new furry friend, Kena: Scars of Kosmora promises to deliver an even bigger adventure than its predecessor.
