The Wolf Among Us Remastered is bringing players back to Fabletown on October 29. Telltale worked to maintain the game’s look and feel while giving the cult-hit a major graphical overhaul.
The Wolf Among Us Remastered was rebuilt from the ground up with new character models, higher resolution textures, improved lighting, and general technical improvements. Telltale has also included a new Noir Mode to bring players Fabletown in black-and-white.
The team rebuilt every major character using new models. Telltale says it went back to concept so it could reimagine how the characters would look with today’s technology.
Speaking of characters, Bigby Wolf himself also got a redesign. His new model is beefed up and more demonic, while still maintaining his core appearance.
Telltale upgraded the visuals without changing the feel of the game. Telltale worked to make sure that these improvements didn’t alter the overall direction or style of the game. As such, The Wolf Among Us Remastered keeps the original narrative intact.
In addition to upgrading the game’s visuals, Telltale upgraded the technology behind it. The Wolf Among Us Remastered moves to a newer iteration of the company’s proprietary engine. This version was previously used for Telltale’s Batman: The Telltale Series games.
As Telltale updated The Wolf Among Us, it had to recraft much of the game. The visual team created new shaders for environmental objects like rocks, trees, and foliage. Telltale eventually had to relight every scene since adjusting the visuals meant the lighting had to change as well.
When you boot up The Wolf Among Us Remastered, you can toggle Noir Mode on for a black-and-white version of Fabletown. Shadows pop more and the world takes on a new mood. If you want to return to color though, you can toggle it on at any time.
Fans of Telltale’s take on the Fables universe can look forward to diving back into Fabletown on October 29 with The Wolf Among Us Remastered.
