Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is sending Lara Croft back to one of the fan-favorite locales from the first-ever Tomb Raider game from 1996. But don’t worry faithful explorers, the reboot has big plans to expand on what you can find beneath Greece.
Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics published Episode 8 of their developer diary series this week. The latest entry covers the Greece level, highlighting the redesigned Sword of Damocles puzzle as well as the developer’s plan for reimagining the ancient ruins.
Instead of closely replicating the locations players saw decades ago, developers are taking advantage of the reboot to fill Greece with additional lore and immersive details that’ll make it feel like it’s been isolated from society all this time.
Croft will explore Greek-inspired environments ranging from caves, cliffs, and waterfalls to sprawling acropolises and recognizable domes. Design Director Jason Epps called out Greece as one of his favorite levels because players should get the sense that Lara is traversing a lost city of ancient Greece for the first time.
Developers plan to sprinkle new gameplay elements into Greece as well. While much of the Tomb Raider reboot has players silently creeping through tombs and temples, certain areas in Greece will force players to move through timed sections.
Diary developers say these high-intensity sequences are meant to exist alongside slower-paced exploration and puzzle-solving. They should help level variety as players bounce between methodically thinking their way through environmental puzzles and running for their lives. The revamped Sword of Damocles puzzle also stands to gain from the expanded Greece level.
Don’t worry if you remember your journey through Greece, developers have vowed to fill the reboot with new lore for returning players to discover.
Legend of Atlantis will release on February 12, 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam), and Nintendo Switch 2.
