It seems as if bad news are coming in thick and fast for Starbreeze as Skybound Entertainment, the creator and owner of The Walking Dead, have terminated the contract arguing that Overkill's The Walking Dead has not met their expectations.

Well, you know you're doing something wrong when the creator of the franchise cuts his ties with your company, as Skybound's founder and chairman is Robert Kirkman himself.

"We did our best to work with Starbreeze and resolve many issues that we saw with the game, but ultimately, Overkill's The Walking Dead did not meet our standards nor is it the quality that we were promised", the company wrote.

As of now, Skybound's contract with Starbreeze is void and the former will "discontinue all efforts" on Overkill's The Walking Dead, although it's unclear what practical measures, if any, this entails.

Overkill's The Walking Dead has so far launched for PC only but its measly earnings of 3.7 million ended up spelling trouble for Starbreeze, who were banking on it to get them out of a financial bind.

Being quite an accurate measurement of the game's quality, or lack thereof, the earnings prompted many to think that the game is being cancelled for consoles. Well, Microsoft and Sony's notifications and refunds also helped.

505 Games, the company in charge of console development of Overkill's The Walking Dead, rushed to refute the rumour, insisting that the game has not been cancelled - only delayed .

Now, however, it seems that the console versions are done for as well and seeing as how 505 Games haven't provided an update since, it's safe to assume that the plug has been pulled.

"We are exceedingly sorry to our fans and share their disappointment in the game. We remain dedicated to providing our fans with the most premium quality content we can offer, and will continue to look for alternative video game options for the IP", Skybounds statement concludes.

Considering the dire financial situation Starbreeze have found themselves in, Skybound might even be doing them a favour, as it's better to cut your losses early than spend additional funds trying to bring an already shoddy product to consoles.
