Meta (formerly Facebook) have reportedly shut down Ready at Dawn, a studio they acquired only a year and a half ago to make VR games for their Quest headset.
Ready at Dawn are best known for The Order 1886, which was one of the early PlayStation 4 games. The Order 1886 wasn't really successful but players remember it for its incredible visual presentation and Ready at Dawn also seem to have a special place in their heart for their shooter.
According to a well-known industry insider Shinobi602, Ready at Dawn had plans to work on a sequel before Meta acquired them but unfortunately, the game was never greenlit.
The insider states that the sequel could've been a much better game than the original since the team had the engine in place and wouldn't need to spend years building tools to support the game.
"From what I knew, they [Ready at Dawn] had awesome plans in place for a sequel to The Order before Meta got them. With the engine already in place (which took up a ton of time and resources in the first one), they were going to put everything into the gameplay experience next.
I bet we could have seen an AC to AC2 level jump. Hope everyone lands on their feet. What a tragic ending for such a talented team."
It's not clear if the project was scrapped before Meta acquired the studio or perhaps, Meta were the one who pulled the plug on the sequel.
It's possible that it was Meta's decision as the company wanted the studio to focus on VR experiences after the acquisition and not traditional AAA titles.
