Battlefield fans got some very exciting news earlier this week when EA officially announced that they are working on a brand new Battlefield game, which is set to release next year.
The game will be a return to modern warfare and what made Battlefield great according to Game Director Vince Zampella, who suggested that the development teams are trying to bring the whole package including single-player, multiplayer and a brand new Battlefield experience.
Today, we have a couple of new details about this new mode, courtesy of Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming who reports that this is actually a free-to-play battle royale mode, that will be set somewhere in a tropical location in the USA.
As already confirmed, this mode is developed by the newly established Ripple Effect studio. It's certainly great that the mode will be free-to-play, which could attract a solid player base after the failures of Battlefield 5's Firestorm battle royale and Battlefield 2042's Hazard Zone extraction mode, which were locked behind the $60 price tag of the full game.
This turned out to be a terrible decision for both of these modes, which were dead on arrival, despite offering something a bit different to Battlefield fans, especially the Firestorm battle royale.
All in all, it remains to be seen how this new battle royale mode for Battlefield pans out. I certainly have high hopes for it as EA have a whole studio working on it, which indicates that they're serious about it and perhaps want to support it for a long time.
It will be hard to attract players to a new battle royale, especially in an oversaturated market with heavy hitters like Call of Duty Warzone, Fortnite and Apex Legends but Battlefield was always a unique shooter that certainly has the potential for a great battle royale mode.
