Battlefield is officially making its glorious return to a modern-day warfare setting. The previous Battlefield titles took players through the World Wars and a modern, futuristic setting. However, following the release of the past titles, players shared their love for the classic modern Battlefield setting.
Before Battlefield 1, EA focused on making Battlefield titles stick to the current time settings in Battlefield 3 and 4. Now in their investor's day event, EA shared a key concept art of the upcoming Battlefield title, which showed the game reverting back to the most-awaited modern-day setting, reminiscing about the grey-ish theme of Battlefield 4.
Upcoming Battlefield title will return back to its basics
In the recent EA investor's day event, the Head of Respawn Entertainment, Vince Zampella, shared a peek at EA's vision for the upcoming Battlefield title. In an exclusive interview with IGN, Vince shared their enthusiastic approach of returning back to basics for their next major Battlefield title, mentioning the likes of Battlefield 3 and 4 in comparison.
To further explain their vision, Vince stated that they are taking major inspiration from the ultimate Battlefield experience present in Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4. After their ventures in the previous titles, they found the best approach for the next title to revert back to a modern setting. Furthermore, the game will officially feature the following mechanics:
- Maps designed for 64 player game modes
- Going back to classes, specialists are out
- Emphasis on naval and aerial combat alongside traditional gunfights
The next Battlefield title will focus on 64 player maps, shifting their focus from the 128 player maps. The specialist system is officially getting vaulted, bringing back the traditional class system. Moreover, the game will also feature enhanced ship-to-ship and aerial (helicopter and fighter jets) combat.
Aside from the key concept art and setting reveal, Vince also confirmed that the game entered into production earlier this year. EA also shared their plans of introducing a community programme sometime in 2025.
