EA and DICE will be using AI bots for Battlefield 6 to accommodate matchmaking, automatically adding them to games when a server is unable to reach its player limit.
Developer details on the feature were shared at a Battlefield 6 event in Hong Kong this weekend, discussing how automated soldiers will fill open spots in lobbies to allow matches to get underway quickly and without waiting for servers to fill.
The goal with this new feature is to simply have more people playing more frequently. Bots will keep games moving so that users don’t have to wait in empty lobbies.
DICE did not go into detail regarding the AI bots’ combat performance but notes they will be substituted with real players as a server has more sign-ups. While not necessarily as fleshed out or eventful, it’s not a bad stop-gap for off-hours or low activity in Battlefield 6.
Multiplayer for Battlefield 6 will also get other content in the form of seasonal events, which will drop more custom modes, maps and weapons.
DICE also added that Portal modes will be supported for further customizing games, though how often these patches will occur is unclear.
