The Last of Us: Part 2 remaster is coming for holiday season 2023

Are you looking to replay a bunch of traumatic experiences in a post-apocalyptic world but in better resolution? Here is all you need to know about it.

Naughty Dog revealed pretty much all you need to know about The Last of Us: Part 2 remaster, which is now scheduled to launch on January 19, 2024, narrowly missing the holiday season of 2023.

However, pre-orders will start on December 5, 2023, so it is possible that the giving spirit will affect the sales regardless.

Some of the features of the remastered version of the game are upgraded graphics, new gameplay modes such as No Return, DualSense wireless controller integration and skins for the protagonists.

No Return is a roguelike survival game mode that obviously alters a few rules you may be used to in order to make it a more hardcore experience than the default version.

Additionally, Speedrun mode will be added to the game, allowing players to track their times and compete with their peers while attempting to finish faster than them.

For the time being, the only platform that will get the remaster is PlayStation 5. There are no mentions of PS4 or PC whatsoever, especially because the latter didn't get the game at all yet, although, with Sony's recent push for the PC market, it is not excluded we will see it in the future despite the lack of an official statement.

For PS4, it is unlikely the platform will ever see the remaster on account of the dated hardware being unable to handle the graphical enhancements. Owners of the game on PS4 will be able to upgrade to the remastered version at the cost of $10 but they will still need a PS5 to play it.

The fiercest of fans can also spring for the W.L.F. Edition which can only be bought directly from PlayStation in US, UK, Germany, France, Benelux, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Austria.

W.L.F. Edition contents are:

  • SteelBook display case
  • Four enamel pins
  • Washington Liberation Front (WLF) patch
  • 47 Society of Champions trading cards
