Fans of the incredible underwater survival adventure Subnautica will be happy to hear that the development of the third game in the series is well underway and could be released in the first half of 2025.
This is according to publisher Krafton, who revealed the information during their latest financial report. As expected, the third entry is being developed by Unknown Worlds, the developer of the first two titles.
Obviously, the release window should not be taken as gospel since this is just Krafton's target release date. There's always a chance that the dev team need a bit more time to properly optimise the game properly.
We don't have a lot of information about the third Subnautica game. The only bit of info that Krafton included in the slides is that the game will be coming to PC and consoles and will stay true to the survival adventure genre, which was expected.
We still don't have the official title of the game, nor do we have the details on the setting. Obviously, most of the game should take place underwater as that's Subnautica's thing but we're eager to see how the devs improve on previous games and what new mechanics they implement to make the whole experience feel fresh but familiar.
Subnautica should launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. A Switch version could also be in development as the two previous games launched on Nintendo's consoles.
In case you are not familiar with the series, Subnautica has been one of the most successful survival games on the market, selling well over 5 million copies across all platforms. The game is praised for its fantastic exploration and stunningly detailed alien world that is packed with secrets.
