Subnautica 2 has found its next stop on its journey to release, Xbox Game Preview. The sequel from Unknown Worlds Entertainment will release on May 14 on Xbox Series X/S, PC, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and PC Game Pass.
Known to expand on the original Subnautica formula with new settings and systems, Subnautica 2 should build upon its predecessor without feeling like it.
While the first game focused on solo survival against the environment, Subnautica 2 plans to expand on that formula by adding new systems.
Subnautica launching via Xbox Game Preview means there will be plenty more content coming to the game as it continues to develop after launch. Previous entries in the series have taken this route, launching in early access states which allow developers to tune systems after launch with the help of community feedback.
In Subnautica 2, players will find themselves submerged in an unfamiliar alien world. No longer stranded on Planet 4546B, players take on the role of a crew member of the Alterra CICADA ship who’s mission is to colonise this new world. As you may have guessed it doesn’t take long for everything to go south.
True to its roots, it’s time to survive.Allowing for up to four players to play together through optional co-op is one of Subnautica 2’s largest systems. For the first time in the series, you will be able to jump into adventure with friends in local or cross-play with others on Xbox or PC.
Known for its strong optimisation between different platforms, Subnautica 2 expands on that philosophy by including support for controllers and devices such as the ROG Xbox Ally. Developers also focused heavily on performance tuning and controls during the design process.
