Subnautica 2
Subnautica 2 is an underwater survival game developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the studio behind the original Subnautica (2018) and Subnautica: Below Zero (2021). Built on Unreal Engine 5, it takes players to an entirely new alien ocean world within the Subnautica universe, introducing new ecosystems, modular vehicles, and a fully overhauled base-building system that moves away from fixed construction pieces in favour of a more sculptural, freeform approach to underwater habitat design. The system has been in development for roughly three years and allows players to customise everything from window shapes and corridor layouts to interior lighting and colour.
For the first time in the series, Subnautica 2 introduces optional four-player cooperative gameplay, letting friends explore, build, and survive together in a shared environment. The game retains the series' signature tension of solo underwater survival while opening the door to collaborative base construction and shared progression. Subnautica 2 is scheduled to enter Early Access on PC and Xbox Series consoles in 2026, with Unknown Worlds sharing regular updates through an ongoing developer vlog series.
