Pearl Abyss has confirmed that Crimson Desert, their exciting upcoming open-world action-adventure RPG, will officially launch on Mac in late 2025. The game will support the full capabilities of Apple silicon, including a suite of advanced graphics and audio technologies.
The game was previously confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
Crimson Desert Will Be Optimised for Apple M3 and M4 Chips
On macOS, Crimson Desert will take advantage of features available on Apple’s latest hardware, according to Pearl Abyss:
- MetalFX Upscaling for improved visual performance and frame rates
- Hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading on M3- and M4-family chips
- HDR support for enhanced colour and brightness
- Spatial Audio for immersive 3D soundscapes
Obviously, this is just a lot of marketing buzzwords for now, so don't start that hype train just yet, at least until we see how the game actually runs on Apple's hardware.
A Growing List of AAA Games for Mac
The announcement adds Crimson Desert to the growing list of graphically intensive games coming to macOS, joining recent titles like Death Stranding Director’s Cut, No Man’s Sky, and Resident Evil Village.
It's certainly interesting to see Pearl Abyss trying to expand their AAA blockbuster to a niche platform for games. Obvoulsy, more games on more platforms is always a good thing and I hope more publishers follow their example.
Crimson Desert is already planned for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game is coming in late 2025, but there's a chance we see another delay since Crimson Desert looks like one massive RPG, and we all know how hard is to QA those.
