Nioh 3 Brings New Setting and Storyline
In Nioh 3, players step into the role of a young warrior rising to power as the next Shogun. The story takes place in a cursed version of feudal Japan, with players exploring villages, haunted forests, and corrupted battlegrounds where monstrous yokai roam.
Open-Field Exploration
Unlike previous entries, Nioh 3 introduces a more open-field gameplay structure. The game won't be fully open-world, though, but the open-field design allows for broader exploration, branching paths, and more dynamic encounters, according to Team Ninja. Players will be free to explore hostile environments at their own pace, which should be useful if a certain boss proves to be a tough nut to crack.
Dual Combat Styles: Samurai and Ninja
A key innovation in Nioh 3 is the introduction of two distinct fighting styles—Samurai and Ninja:
Samurai Style builds on the classic Nioh combat formula, with added mechanics like “Arts Proficiency” to boost martial techniques and “Deflect” for last-second parries.
Ninja Style emphasises agility and stealth, offering aerial movement, evasive skills like “Evade,” and illusions such as “Mist,” which leaves behind a clone after attacks.
Players will be able to switch seamlessly between the two styles, adapting to different enemies and tactical situations in combat.

Nioh 3 Confirmed Release Platforms
Nioh 3 is launching on PC via Steam and PlayStation 5. Those are the only two platforms that have been announced so far. Xbox players will once again miss out on a Japanese game, but there's still hope that the game arrives at a later date to Xbox Series X and S.
