Bethesda have released the official day one patch for Starfield on PC and Xbox Series X|S platforms. The patch went live a couple of hours ago and can be pre-installed via Steam, the Xbox app on PC and your consoles.
The download size of the patch is around 15 GB give or take, which is pretty massive. That's obviously good news as it means the update is packed with improvements, bug fixes and other optimisations.
As you probably know, Bethesda and Microsoft devs have been working tirelessly to make Starfield the most polished Bethesda game ever released and judging by some early impressions from reviewers, Starfield could indeed take that crown.
The patch notes for the day one patch are not yet available but expect them by September 1, when the game officially launches in early access. Until then, we can only speculate what's included in this update but day-one patches usually bring performance improvements but sometimes even new features.
Even with this massive day-one patch and the efforts from Microsoft and Bethesda QA teams, it's likely that Starfield will still ship with a handful of bugs but given the scope and the ambition of this game, that's pretty much expected.
All in all, it's great that Bethesda are pushing these updates out just in time for the release so players can have the best possible experience once they finally start exploring the space in Starfield in a couple of days.
More updates and patches are expected after the launch but it does look like Bethesda did the majority of bug squashing and optimisation by now.
