Rumours about The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake just won't go away. First revealed in the leaked Bethesda roadmap as a "remaster" that was supposed to launch shortly after the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Oblivion Remake could reportedly be revealed very soon.

According to Xbox insider and content creator extas1s, the Oblivion Remake announcement is potentially coming at the Xbox Developer Direct in January 2025, which was recently teased by The Verge journalist Tom Warren.

Reliable insider Tom Henderson also added that Oblivion Remake was one of the heavily rumoured games for The Game Awards reveal, which didn't happen in the end but suggests we're nearing the official reveal date.

If the Oblivion Remake is set to appear at the Xbox Developer Direct in January, it's likely that the game's target release date is 2025, as Microsoft typically uses the January event to showcase games coming that year.

Everything we know about Oblivion Remake so far

The rumoured Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake is reportedly being developed by Virtuos Studio, who specialise in co-developing big AAA titles. Some of their work includes Cyberpunk 2077, Dark Souls Remastered, Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1 to name a few. They are also the studio behind the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

Oblivion Remake is apparently being built in two engines - Unreal Engine 5 will be used as a graphics rendered while the physics and simulation will be handled by Bethesda's Creation engine.

The game is coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. It's safe to assume that it will also be a day-one release on Game Pass.

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is one of the greatest RPGs ever made
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion is one of the best RPGs of all time and many RPG fans hold it close to their heart. It was also one of the most technically advanced games of its time, with stunning visuals, a large open world and schedule-driven NPCs.

It still holds up well to this day but it's almost 20 years old at this point, which is why Bethesda are doing this remake. The publisher are probably looking to introduce the Elder Scrolls franchise to new players, ahead of their big Elder Scrolls 6, which is coming sometime in the next couple of years.
