CD Projekt Red dropped a cinematic reveal trailer for their upcoming Witcher game which is officially dubbed "The Witcher 4" and follows the beloved character Ciri at the heart of the story.

It's been heavily rumoured that CD Projekt Red are about to reveal The Witcher 4 trailer at The Game Awards and...it actually happened. It was a welcomed surprise to be honest, one that many of us hardcore Witcher fans have been waiting for ever since that tearjerker conclusion in The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion.

Anyway, The Witcher 4 (they actually called it that) is officially coming and as expected, it will be all about Ciri, who is the main protagonist at the heart of this new saga. Just like its predecessors, the game is a single-player action RPG. Oh, and it's going to feature the biggest and most ambitious open world that CD Projekt Red have ever created. Sheesh.

CD Projekt Red say that they knew for a very long time that Ciri was their next hero and in The Witcher 4, it's all going to be about exploring what it truly means to become a witcher as we follow Ciri on her path.

The trailer that you can watch above is, unfortunately, pre-rendered cinematic, which means it's not gameplay, nor in-game, but it gives you a pretty good idea of the art style and visual fidelity CD Projekt Red are aiming for.

In the trailer, we see an older version of Ciri as she arrives at a remote village where a girl is about to be sacrificed in a traditional ritual, a theme that we've seen in The Witcher 3. The trailer also shows us that Ciri can drink potions and has a chain that can be set on fire, which is a never-before-seen weapon in the Witcher universe.

All in all, it's a pretty great-looking trailer that despite its length, gives us only a glimpse of The Witcher 4's dark world. I can't wait to see more.

The Witcher 4 is being built on the latest iteration of Unreal Engine 5, so it's safe to say that it's going to be quite the looker thanks to Nanite, Lumen and all the other fancy tech Epic Games have built into this popular tool.

At the moment, the game does not have a release date but you can expect it sometime in late 2026, as CD Projekt Red recently stated their aim is to release the game less than two years after the initial reveal.
