Bandai Namco will be publishing Dawnwalker, a debut action RPG from Rebel Wolves, a studio established by former CD Projekt Red developers.
The two sides announced the big partnership today, stating that Bandai Namco will have the global publishing rights for the first game in the Dawnwalker saga, taking responsibility for both the retail and digital distribution of the game on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles.
In case you're not familiar with Dawnwalker, Rebel Wolves' say this will be a dark fantasy narrative sandbox with AAA scope. The game is set in medieval Europe and it's aimed at mature audiences. Rebel Wolves are using Epic's Unreal Engine 5 for the project so expect spectacular visuals with Lumen (hardware one please, guys), Nanite and other fancy features.
Speaking on behalf of Rebel Wolves, Chief Publishing Officer, Tomasz Tinc said Bandai Namco are a perfect match for Rebel Wolves thanks to their history in creating RPGs
“Rebel Wolves is a new studio built upon solid foundations: a combination of experience and fresh energy. Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe, a company known for its dedication to the role-playing genre and willingness to engage with new IPs, is a perfect match for our wolfpack. Not only does it share our values, but also its track record in publishing narrative-driven RPGs speaks for itself.”
The official press release asserts that more information about the game will be unveiled in the coming months. My bet is on The Game Awards show, which is a perfect opportunity to reveal such a big project with an eye-catching first trailer.
Geoff has managed to get a fair share of world premieres on his show over the last couple of years and I'm sure he'd be delighted to get something from ex-CDPR devs.
One thing that I found intriguing is that Rebel Wolves mention this is only the first game in the series, implying they have plans for the whole trilogy or at least a sequel. A lot of that will depend on the sales of the first game obviously but you certainly wouldn't be talking about a franchise if you aren't confident in your product. I love that attitude, Wolves.
