EA and Dice are pretty quiet about the next Battlefield game, which is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2021. The main reason for that is probably Battlefield V, which still receives fresh content on a regular basis and while players certainly appreciate these free updates, it's safe to say that they would love to hear more about the next title.
Some earlier rumours suggested that Battlefield would be returning to modern warfare while others even claimed that Bad Company 3 is the next one. However, according to the latest leak on Reddit, the next Battlefield game will not be Bad Company 3. Instead, it will take place in the near future, apparently in 2030. The game will feature robots, drones and other futuristic gadgets while staying realistic.
"The game returns the series to the modern setting, being set apparently in 2030, and will feature a focus on near-future, though realistic technology," it's written in the Reddit post.
As for the features, the new Battlefield will bring back a revised version of Levolution, which will apparently require more effort to trigger. This time around, it's designed to be more tactical and can be different in each game. "It's less of a scripted event, more of different actions the team has to take that can result in different outcomes," the leaker explains.
Furthermore, the destruction has been improved massively thanks to next-gen capabilities. Bullets will realistically penetrate walls depending on the material, leaving bullet holes in the geometry. Buildings can fully collapse instead of just breaking apart walls. The destruction will be material based so the wood wall will break apart much easier than metal or concrete wall.
The leak also claims that Dice are designing maps around Rush mode, which will make a big return, just like Breakthrough.
The game entered development during Battlefield V production and apparently, it was originally imagined as Bad Company 3. However, EA and Dice decided to shut down the development since "the game didn't feel like a Bad Company game" and rework what they've had into a different setting.
Of course, these are just rumours and take them with a grain of salt just like any other rumour, leak or unconfirmed info. That being said, all these details sound pretty exciting and hopefully, we'll hear more about the game in the near future.
