With the 2025 Preseason looming, Riot Games has made some sweeping changes for League of Legends, especially regarding the game's Legendary Items. Riot is looking to heavily nerf 95% of these items-the move has been hotly debated within the community for months.
In the last year, the players have felt that Legendary Items are just too powerful and really imbalance the game. Riot feels the very same way, and they're attempting to mend this. While they tried balancing those items out back in 2020 and heading into Season 14, those didn't quite take.
This time around, Riot has the ambition to finally get it right: reducing the power and stats of most Legendary Items.
In a recent video titled "An Update on Some Projects," Riot Phreak outlined the forthcoming changes, which will continue to nerf these items as well as simplify and streamline their effects. Items such as Burst AP item are just going to give Ability Power and Magic Penetration; things like Movement Speed are going to be taken off it. This shift in design will make items more candid and not as powerful.
The other big change has to do with tank items. Riot knows that the way things currently stand, tank items just feel meager. With that in mind, they've revised the items to better fit tanks, Divers, and Juggernauts.
The exact date for when these changes will hit is still up in the air, but Riot has let us know that they will be after Patch 13.19. As that information becomes available, it will continue to update players on how League of Legends will change.
These changes thus suggest a rather dramatic change in how itemization will be approached in the game, making it far more balanced and enjoyable for all.
