Rumours about the upcoming Resident Evil games have been floating around social media and gaming forums for months now. We got some reports suggesting Capcom are working on Resident Evil 1 Remake and that Leon Kennedy would be the main character of the next major instalment in the franchise - Resident Evil 9.
However, a reliable insider for all things horror, Dusk Golem, has stated that Resident Evil 1 Remake is not in "any form of development" at the moment and that Capcom are not actively working on Resident Evil 5 Remake either.
The remakes that the publisher have reportedly greenlit and that are being developed right now are Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil Code Veronica according to the Dusk Golem's knowledge.
"If everything I've heard is correct, which I fully believe it is, I know others have hinted this I'm not the first to say this publicly actually just it's not caught on, there's actually a remake of Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica in development right now," the insider posted on social media X.
In addition, Resident Evil 9 apparently won't be revealed this summer. The game's announcement is now further away while the internal release window has also been delayed to late 2025 or even 2026. The insider apologised for "back and forth" on that since he was one of the sources to state Resident Evil 9 is closer than expected.
"I would wipe the expectations of RE9 being announced this summer period. The initial murmurs I heard I now do believe are right, and Resident Evil 9's announcement is further away than this upcoming summer. Sorry for the back-and-forth on that, that's my fault."
As always with rumours, leaks and unconfirmed info, we suggest you take everything with a massive grain of salt until Capcom finally provide us with some official details.
Things change all the time in game development, especially for unannounced games and what is true today may not be true in two months or so so it's always smart to don't take this info as set in stone.
It's no secret that Capcom want to make more Resident Evil remakes given that Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 sold like hotcakes. The iconic horror franchise is certainly at the height of its popularity at the moment and I fully expect Capcom to continue making more and more Resident Evil games in the near future.
