Capcom's latest horror title Resident Evil 4 Remake has reached a major sales milestone, the publisher announced today. The game managed to sell over five million copies globally across PC, PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
Capcom also revealed that the Resident Evil franchise's cumulative sales have now exceeded 142 million units as of March 31, 2023, which is certainly a massive number, proving once again just how big the Resident Evil franchise is for Capcom.
Capcom hope to boost the sales of Resident Evil 4 Remake with the upcoming release of the VR Mode, which will be a free DLC for PlayStation VR2 owners.
With five million copies sold, Resident Evil 4 Remake is off to a great start and could soon get closer to some of the best-selling Resident Evil games ever, like those in the list below.
Top five best-selling Resident Evil games
- Resident Evil 5 - 13.7 million
- Resident Evil 4 - 12.6 million
- Resident Evil 7 - 12 million
- Resident Evil 2 Remake - 11.0 million
- Resident Evil 6 - 10.9 million
Such strong sales obviously mean one thing - Capcom will look to remake even more Resident Evil games in the future and they have already asked players in recent surveys which older games they would love to see recreated with modern visuals and other improvements.
Also, Capcom are undoubtedly working on the next mainline Resident Evil game, which is coming in a couple of years according to the most recent rumours.
