The protagonist of the next potential Resident Evil game will be Chris Redfield, according to a leaker. He also claims that Ethan Winters' story is done and his role in Resident Evil is finished.

A Twitter user called ChrisMarx posted information about a new potential sequel in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 9, claiming that the next Resident Evil's story will mostly revolve around Chris Redfield, who was the main protagonist in many previous Resident Evil titles, including some parts of Resident Evil Village.

It's not unusual for some random user to post information about potential future titles; however, this user has already proven his credibility on multiple occasions by posting leaks for Dragon's Dogma and Payday 3 that turned out to be legit.

ChrisMarx also claims, although he emphasises here that this is only his belief, that we will no longer see Ethan Winters in the role of protagonist in the next Resident Evil titles and that his story is concluded, or at least temporarily reached its conclusion.

Apart from Chris, who will play a significant role in the next Resident Evil, this leaker claims that Jill, Claire, and Leon will also take some part in the upcoming Resident Evil, though their roles will be considerably less important than the one of Chris Redfield.

Chris is a Special Ops soldier, so the action in the potential ninth Resident Evil title, with him as a protagonist, could go in a completely different direction than the last two games. As a result, we might see a little bit more action, like in the final Village sequences or in a separate DLC in RE 7, in which Chris served as the game's main protagonist, if those speculations happen to be true.
