Capcom's decision to start remaking classic Resident Evil titles like Resident Evil 2, 3 and the most recent Resident Evil 4 has turned out to be one of their best business decisions of the last decade.
Resident Evil 2 Remake alone sold over 13 million copies so it's not at all surprising that Capcom are ramping up the development of more remakes. According to reliable leaker DanielRPK, Resident Evil 1 is one of the new remakes Capcom are working on.
In addition, the same account that recently shared news about Resident Evil 9, revealed that the remake is real and could be coming sometime in 2026. Capcom are yet to officially announce such a game so take everything with a grain of salt.
Capcom did say previously that they will have a special surprise for players on the franchise's 30th anniversary which is in 2026 so this remake could be what they are preparing for the fans.
The details about the rumoured Resident Evil 1 Remake are almost non-existent since the leakers only shared the information that the project exists and targets the 2026 release.
We don't know anything about how Capcom plans to rework gameplay but a safe assumption would be that the publisher will stick to what works so expect something similar to how they handled Resident Evil 2 Remake.
Given that the game is rumoured for release in 2026, we don't expect to see the official reveal until next year. Capcom usually have a shorter window between official announcements and release for the remakes so a Summer or Autumn 2025 release is what we expect.
The game will probably be coming to all major platforms including PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Capcom also have other Resident Evil projects in the works, including the next major instalment Resident Evil 9, which is reportedly set in SouthEast Asia and features Leon Kennedy as the main protagonist.
