Alan Wake and Control studio Remedy Entertainment have reached an agreement with the Chinese gaming giant Tencent for the development and publishing of a brand new co-op multiplayer game codenamed Vanguard.

Tencent will be helping Remedy with their brand new game which is currently under development, codenamed Vanguard. The game will be Remedy's original intellectual property and interestingly, it's planned as a free-to-play title.

In their official announcement, Remedy say that Vanguard will combine action gameplay and their narrative expertise into an immersive multiplayer experience. The game is being built in Unreal Engine but Remedy did not specify if they will be using the latest iteration - Unreal Engine 5.

As for the platforms, Vanguard will be coming to PC and consoles. Remedy will develop and publish the game worldwide, excluding selected Asian markets, where Tencent will localize and publish the game.

The release date is still pretty far away since the game is currently in the proof-of-concept stage while the development budget is in rage of a typical Remedy AAA game budged. The development is co-financed by Remedy and Tencent and in addition, Tencent will localise the game for the selected Asian markets.

Remedy have also licensed Tencent worldwide rights to develop and publish a mobile version of the game.

You may recall that Tencent acquired a 3.8 per cent stake in Remedy earlier this year and this latest partnership may suggest that Tencent could soon go for a full acquisition of Remedy.

The Chinese gaming giant have been adding more studios under their umbrella with the acquisition of Turtle Rock Studios, the developers of Back 4 Blood.
