Manchester Major R6 event revealed new membership model

Rainbow Six: Siege will adapt the membership model; Ubisoft revealed it on BLAST R6 Manchester Major. While this step was very predictable, the fans are mad and disappointed, nonetheless.

Ubisoft had an event in Manchester last weekend called BLAST R6 Manchester Major, where they announced their future plans for its live service shooter Rainbow Six: Siege, which is now in an incredible ninth year of existence.

Among the many new content and improvements announced during the event, which were well-received by the public, one particular announcement caused everyone to boo the presenters: the introduction of R6 paid membership; a concept already well-known by major titles such as Call of Duty, Fortnite, Fallout 76, and others.

Even though the announcement of this concept was something everyone was expecting to come to this live service, there was a slight hope that it would not happen to Rainbow Six: Siege, but it is what it is. The price of Rainbow Six Membership will be $10 a month, and the owners of this membership will enjoy some benefits like a 'premium' battle pass, unique cosmetic items, and exclusive content drops, available only for them.

Among other announcements made during the Manchester Major, Ubisoft disclosed several exciting game enhancements and new features. They promised new operators, balance modifications, quality-of-life enhancements, and the global launch of Rainbow Six Siege's peer-to-peer marketplace.

They also spoke about upgrades to the player safety mechanisms and anti-cheat mechanics, as well as more information regarding the operators who will be slightly 'nerfed' for Operation New Blood.

Anyway, it appears that all of the wonderful stuff was insufficient to disguise the fans' unhappiness with the introduction of the paid membership scheme, and it is clear that many will not accept it well. We definitely doubt that it will have an impact on the popularity of the very acclaimed Ubisoft Live service. However, disgruntled fans are something that all developers want to avoid.
