Helldivers 2 is facing a significant challenge as it grapples with a sharp decline in its active player base, losing a staggering 80% within just four months of its global launch on PC and PlayStation 5. This rapid drop is alarming for any multiplayer game, especially newly launched ones.
On top of that, Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead Game Studios and Director of Helldivers 2, announced that he is stepping down from his position to assume the role of Chief Creative Officer at the studio.
While Arrowhead, the game's developer, has acknowledged a slowdown in updates for the time being, it's crucial for them to prioritize enhancing content variety and expanding the arsenal of available weapons with greater efficiency.
How do I unlock the EXO-49 Emancipator Exosuit?
Just before the holiday weekend, the official Helldivers 2 Twitter account issued a significant directive to its player base, known as a Major Order. This directive tasked players with liberating Varylia 5 from the Automatons.
In just a few days, the player community achieved success, completing the order. Their reward? A formidable new mech suit is dubbed the dual-autocannon EXO-49 Emancipator Exosuit.
As its name suggests, this suit is as imposing and powerful as it sounds. Featuring dual cannons mounted on each side, the deployment video highlights its striking yellow colorway.
How are the players reacting to this?
Currently, not all Helldivers 2 players are sold on the new mech suit. Despite only a few hours passing since its deployment, there are already notable critics within the community. However, there are also enthusiastic supporters.
Some players have embraced its free cost and unlimited uses, leveraging its power to swiftly dispatch enemies.
Then, there's a middle-ground perspective from some users who acknowledge the fun factor while also recognizing its limitations.
On the other end, there are concerns about its lower durability, particularly its effectiveness at more challenging levels.
It could be that the recent drama Helldivers went through, including the PSN sign-in and review bombing, has players on the edge; the rewarding of the Mech Suit was a nice gesture from the developer's end.
But, as we all know, that won't be enough. Helldivers still has the chance to win back its lost players. However, that will all depend on how they handle the upcoming days in the game as well as with the community.
