The PlayStation Network is experiencing a widespread outage today, 24 July 2026, with players across the US, UK, and other regions reporting they cannot sign into their accounts, access the PlayStation Store, or launch downloaded games that require an online verification. Reports began flooding social media and Down Detector from around 9 AM BST, with thousands of complaints submitted within the first hour alone.
The situation is made more frustrating by Sony's official PlayStation Network Status page, which continues to show all services as operational despite the volume of reports. This pattern, where the status page lags significantly behind actual outage conditions, has become a recurring point of criticism from the PlayStation community. Sony has not issued any public statement or acknowledgement of the issue at the time of writing.
The timing is particularly bad. Halo: Campaign Evolved early access launched yesterday for Premium and Collector's Edition owners, meaning some players who were planning to jump in on day two are finding themselves locked out by a network issue outside their control. The outage has also reignited discussion around Sony's announced plan to stop producing physical discs for new PlayStation games from January 2028, with players pointing out that an all-digital future is far more vulnerable to exactly this kind of service disruption.
