Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game launched today, 23 July 2026, on PlayStation 5 , PC, and Nintendo Switch, but Xbox Series X|S players will not be joining them. In a statement posted to the game's official X account early this morning, developer Gameplay Group International confirmed that the Xbox version has been delayed by six weeks to 3 September 2026, citing "unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature" as the reason. The announcement arrived just hours before the scheduled launch, leaving Xbox owners with almost no warning.
The statement did not elaborate on the nature of the backend issue. Existing pre-orders on Xbox will remain active and will not be cancelled. The game is priced at $29.99 across all other platforms and is available now on PS5, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version to follow later this year. Nintendo Switch players received their own set of limitations today: the game launches on that platform as a Standard Edition only, with crossplay and several language options beyond English unavailable at launch. The developer confirmed it is working to bring those features to Switch players as soon as possible, with no firm timeline given.
The timing is unfortunate for Xbox players who had been following the game closely, particularly after the positive reception it generated during its closed beta in early July and its EVO 2026 showcase slot. The delay also places the Xbox launch on 3 September, the same day The Blood of Dawnwalker releases, putting it into a considerably more competitive window than its original July date. Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a hand-drawn 1v1 fighter featuring twelve characters drawn from both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, with Year One DLC planned for five additional fighters after launch.
