Fallout hype is at an all-time high as players and streamers take turns immersing themselves in the futuristic post-apocalyptic world of Fallout 4 following the success of the Amazon-produced Fallout TV show.
Moreover, Bethesda Softworks has also released a next-gen Fallout 4 update for all next-gen consoles, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PC, and Valve's Steam Deck. While the next-gen update is functioning properly for most platforms, many Steam Deck users have reported the opposite. Apparently, according to many users online, the next-gen update for Fallout 4 has rendered the game unplayable on Valve's Steam Deck.
Fallout 4 becomes unplayable following the next-gen update on Steam Deck
Following the release of the next-gen update, many players reported that the game's graphics options became inaccessible on Steam Deck after Bethesda removed the original Fallout 4 launcher. The Fallout 4 launcher is the only way of changing all graphical settings for Fallout 4 since the game's launch.
Moreover, the update also failed to fix a concurrent problem for Steam Deck OLED users where their framerate became half of the required number. As the OLED version features a 90 Hz display instead of a 60 Hz display, many players became visibly uncomfortable while playing Fallout 4 on their Steam Deck.
Fortunately, many players were able to figure out a work around for the Fallout 4 launcher. To get access to graphical settings, simply add "SteamDeck=0 %command%" to Fallout 4's launch option from he Steam Deck's settings.
More issues regarding the Fallout 4 next-gen update have started to surface online. Many Xbox Series X users have reported that the newly added Quality Mode is not working on their consoles. As for many PlayStation Plus users, they have been unable to access their free copy of Fallout 4 which was given out a few years ago. Bethesda has not issued any statement regarding these issues, so it'll likely get fixed in the coming weeks.
