During a digital event arranged by Warhorse and Deep Silver, the developers who have dedicated years to crafting the RPG sequel, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, we were provided with intriguing details into what to anticipate from the follow-up to the acclaimed action RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, released in 2018.
For those unfamiliar, Kingdom Come: Deliverance stands out as the most historically precise RPG game depicting fifteenth-century Bohemia, encompassing the region of the present-day Czech Republic.
The sequel will continue the story of the same protagonist, Henry of Skalitz, and storyline, essentially picking up where the previous game left off. Let's delve into what lies ahead in the upcoming sequel, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Storyline and description
You play as Henry of Skalitz, a regular person facing remarkable challenges, caught in an engaging story of revenge, betrayal, and self-discovery. From a small blacksmith's shop to the grandeur of kings' courts, Henry seeks his purpose in a visually stunning but tough mediaeval world.
Explore busy city streets and lush forests, experiencing an open-world version of mediaeval Europe. Get ready for an unforgettable adventure full of action, suspense, and exciting discoveries.
Henry embarks on a journey to seek vengeance for his murdered parents, encountering numerous challenges and becoming entangled in a captivating love story typical of games of this genre and narrative depth.
Your decisions determine Henry’s fate and how others perceive him. You will be able to personalise Henry's looks, abilities, and gear as you navigate moral dilemmas in the world. Explore the diverse landscape, participating in activities like crafting and archery, to deeply engage with this lively European setting. Your choices leave a lasting impact on the world, shaping its memory of your actions indefinitely.
The developers are promising at least double the length of the first game's story, with much more cutscenes and pre-filmed content. They also claim that the story is more dramatic, more sophisticated, and, most importantly, more epic. An indicator of the enhanced quality of both the storyline and the overall game in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 compared to its predecessor is the significant increase in the development team size. While only 11 people worked on the first game, approximately 250 individuals are dedicated to crafting the sequel.
Combat
Regarding combat, this sequel will maintain the approach of its predecessor, using a first-person perspective. This immersive style fosters a deeply personal connection with the character, enhancing the feeling of engagement during combat encounters.
The developers assure us of a diverse array of weapons and character classes to select from, offering various combat approaches. Whether opting for the traditional sword-and-shield method, wielding heavy melee weapons like maces or axes, or embracing ranged combat as a skilled archer, the options are nearly limitless, as pledged by the developers.
The combat will be more realistic, with a better "feel" for the weapons you wield. It's claimed that during combat, you will feel the strength of the weapon, and each swing will feel personal and, if well executed, will be well rewarded in terms of bigger damage and battle satisfaction in general.
Furthermore, in addition to on-foot combat, the game will feature stealth mechanics and mounted combat, promising extensive gameplay experiences. We earnestly anticipate the fulfilment of this promise.
Setting and aesthetics
The developers assure us of an immersive mediaeval adventure, featuring a vibrant and interactive world. As pledged, the game will abound with activities in the cities we explore, the surrounding countryside, and various other locales. Expect to encounter bustling taverns, relaxing bathhouses, majestic castles, and much more throughout your journey.
Regarding graphics, screenshots from the game and some in-engine footage that has been shown to us showcase a significant improvement compared to its predecessor, which is understandable given that the first game was released six years ago. Also, it is worth noting that the game is made using the fantastic Cry Engine, which holds a significant weight and promises that the game should look stunning.
Medieval Europe was often depicted as a grim place plagued by disease, hardship, and squalor. However, the developers aimed to portray this era in a fresh light in this game. Vibrant colours, lush landscapes teeming with greenery, and cities reminiscent of fairy tales dominate the game's aesthetic. This intentional departure from historical accuracy was made by the developers to offer players an opportunity to revel in the beauty awaiting them in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Release date and availability
The release date of the game is not specified, but it is confirmed to launch sometime in 2024. Once Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is out, it will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S consoles.
DON'T MISS!
