HoYoverse has revealed Nodusfall at Gamescom 2026, a dark fantasy co-op RPG featuring giant monsters, brutal combat and Unreal Engine 5 visuals.

Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 wasn’t short of surprises, but HoYoverse dropped a particularly big one by unveiling its new game, Nodusfall. It’s a brand-new dark fantasy cooperative action RPG unlike anything the developer has ever made before.

The studio behind hits like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero is changing things up by diving headfirst into a much darker and realistic fantasy world.

Dozens of dragons, massive monsters, towering titans, and sprawling worlds make up Nodusfall’s dangerous fantasy landscape. We also got our first look at players taking on enormous enemies together in cooperative battles. Predictably, players are already drawing comparisons to games like Elden Ring: Nightreign and Monster Hunter.

What We Know About Nodusfall

Nodusfall is described as an original dark fantasy cooperative action RPG with MMO elements. Players assume the role of a Weaver fighting to survive in a world where the gods no longer hold power.

Together with other players, you’ll hunt down powerful mythic beasts that roam the open world. Chasing down these creatures to engage them in boss fights appeared to be a focus of the gameplay showcased in the first trailer.

Hunting down massive creatures was also one of the most impressive aspects of this first glimpse at Nodusfall. Not only are the monsters massive, but they literally tower over the characters and environments around them.

Graphically, Nodusfall looks nothing like HoYoverse’s other major games. Instead of drawing inspiration from anime, this new RPG takes a darker, more realistic approach to its world building.

Characters wield large weapons and fight in stunningly detailed environments. From the monsters to the scale of the world itself, there’s a lot to take in from Nodusfall’s first trailer. Early reactions are comparing it to Elden Ring due to its dark fantasy world and giant bosses.

Combat looks grittier than what players may be used to from HoYoverse’s previous games as well. We see swordplay, dodge rolls that rely on stamina, and players cooperating to take down massive foes.

The emphasis on cooperative gameplay also leads players to compare Nodusfall to Elden Ring: Nightreign. For those who enjoyed hunting giant beasts in Monster Hunter, Nodusfall will likely feel familiar.

Developed in Unreal Engine 5

Speaking of similarities, Nodusfall isn’t just graphically different from previous HoYoverse games. This is the first project from the studio that we know is being built with Unreal Engine 5.

While Unity powered several of the developer’s previous games, Nodusfall shows off HoYoverse’s ambitions with its vastly massive worlds. Between the enormous creatures and unbelievable scale, this is easily HoYoverse’s biggest title to date.
