CD Projekt has confirmed The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past after the expansion had been rumoured for months. The company revealed the upcoming expansion during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 with a new trailer.
Songs of the Past arrives approximately ten years after Blood and Wine concluded the original post-launch campaign for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Rumours about The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past have also suggested that it will tie into The Witcher 4.
CD Projekt has now confirmed Songs of the Past officially. It is launching this year alongside a new free update that will remaster the base game.
CD Projekt Reveals Songs of the Past
CD Projekt stunned viewers at Gamescom 2026 with the announcement of Songs of the Past. The developer shared a CGI trailer for The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, which stars series protagonist Geralt of Rivia.
Geralt will be voiced once again by Doug Cockle, who is reprising his role from prior entries in the franchise. Songs of the Past will follow an original story that connects the narrative of The Witcher 3 to its sequel.
Developer CD Projekt first notified employees of Songs of the Past’s development last year. The news was confirmed by CD Projekt’s lead game designer, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz.
Songs of the Past Will Be Playable at Gamescom
Gamers will get their first look at Songs of the Past when they attend Gamescom 2026. The developer included the expansion on Gamescom’s show floor so attendees can play it.
The inclusion of Songs of the Past at Gamescom 2026 should give fans insight into how the new story connects to The Witcher 3 and what to expect from Geralt’s next adventure.
The Witcher 3 Remastered Update Is Coming September 29
In addition to announcing Songs of the Past, CD Projekt revealed The Witcher 3 Remastered. This new version of the game includes several upgrades and enhancements.
Existing owners of The Witcher 3 can download the free update when it launches on September 29, 2026. Players can look forward to returning to one of the best RPGs of this generation.
