One of the most beloved champions in League of Legends, Hecarim, will be receiving a new default splash art courtesy of Riot Games. This update is slated to arrive in patch 13.6, which is scheduled for release on Thursday, March 23rd, 2023.
League of Legends was launched in 2009 and since then, Riot has added a vast amount of content to the game. However, some of the older content has not received updates, resulting in poor visuals by today's standards.
Hecarim made his debut in League of Legends in the beginning of 2012, and although his original splash art has stood the test of time, his new artwork is even more impressive.
Nonetheless, Riot Games is dedicated to constantly updating the game and its content. These updates can range from simple statistical tweaks to a complete overhaul of a champion's visuals and abilities through a VGU (Visual and Gameplay Update).
The most striking alteration is to his appearance, where Riot has replaced his skull-like face with a new, more intimidating design, likely due to censorship regulations.
This modification has actually enhanced Hecarim's overall appearance and made him even more terrifying. Additionally, his armor has been updated from a mere helmet to full body armor, emphasizing his role as a guardian of the Shadow Isles.
Another noteworthy improvement is to Hecarim's spear, which now bears a striking resemblance to the Spear of Shojin. This item is only effective on a select few champions, including Hecarim.
Additionally, the modified background image complements the overall changes made to the champion. It's worth noting that Riot has only updated Hecarim's splash art, and no changes have been made to his in-game visuals.
