Riot Games published a huge post about the state of ranked play in League of Legends and announced a few exciting things they have planned for the future.
First and foremost is the reward for placing Gold or above in Season 13, the Victorious skin of the season, which has gone to Anivia this time around.
There are no in-game screenshots yet but the splash art does look quite impressive. Meanwhile, there is a new rank that is being added for Season 14.
It will be the Emerald tier, which is already present in League of Legends: Wild Rift, and it will be between Platinum and Diamond. Since it's not one of the apex tiers, it will have its own divisions.
Speaking of which, moving up in ranks will be made less of a time-waster since the promotional series are going away in the new season. Relegation protection will still be in place to prevent falling out of your new tier as soon as you get in.
With these changes, the climb should feel much better because you will not get stuck in limbo where you are denied promotion just because you didn't win three games in a BO5.
Time wasting will also be mitigated at the start of the season. Placement matches will be reduced to five, down from 10, so you can know your rank sooner rather than later.
