Pinging in League of Legends is the main mode of a productive conversation. However, the system Riot Games currently have implemented is not as expansive as it needs to be, so new options are being put in.
The need for this is an obvious one, as the current four pings are used almost exclusively in other, likely toxic ways, and not in the way the developers intended them to be.
So, with preseason 2023, they are introducing new ping options, to help win in-game coordination:
- Engage
- Assist me
- Harass
- Enemy missing
- Freeze
- Danger
- Push
- On the way
As we can see, the usual four pings will still be present in the game, and will, thankfully, be placed in the same places where they are currently. This means that, that our muscle memory won't have to be relearned.
Interestingly, two of the pings concern wave management and are intended for communication between laners and their jungle, or the two laner in the bot lane.
Unfortunately, we don't know if Riot Games are aware that most of their fan base doesn't know what proper wave management is, on the account of an abysmal tutorial, and will likely use these the wrong way.
Seeing as they haven't made a proper tutorial at the height of Arcane when millions of new players flocked to the game, we doubt that they will do so now.
