Konami's legendary vampire hack-and-slash franchise Castlevania is celebrating its 40th birthday, and for that occasion, the Japanese publisher have kicked off anniversary celebrations. The highlight is the original Castlevania itself, now available free on the App Store and Google Play until October 24, 2026. The game that started it all will be free for a limited time.
The original Castlevania was first released in 1986, introducing vampire hunter Simon Belmont's battle against Dracula within his castle. It's the foundation the entire series has been built on since, and Konami are giving new and returning players a free way back in for a limited window.
Discounts across the series
Alongside the free release, Konami are running discounts of up to 80% on Castlevania titles across PlayStation Store and Steam.
PlayStation Store (September 23 – October 7):

- Castlevania Dominus Collection – 50% off
- Castlevania Advance Collection – 70% off
- Castlevania Requiem: Symphony of the Night & Rondo of Blood – 70% off

Konami are also marking the anniversary with official soundtracks arriving on streaming platforms, a dedicated "Castlevania 40th Anniversary Orchestral Concert," and a new merchandise lineup, for those of you die-hard Castlevania fans.
And if you're in for more Castlevania news, Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is arriving next month, which is hopefully some sort of a reboot for the franchise, which certainly deserves more games nowadays.
