Hideo Kojima has given a detailed update on PHYSINT following Xbox's Tokyo Game Show broadcast, confirming the game's lead cast, and a new tagline pitching it as "The Next Cold War".

Hideo Kojima closed out Xbox's Tokyo Game Show broadcast with an update on Physint, and there's a fair amount to unpack.

The newly released poster confirms PHYSINT's tagline as "The Next Cold War Begins," a strong hint at the geopolitical, espionage-driven tone Kojima has already been building the game's identity around. It's also a notable phrase for a project inheriting the action-espionage mantle Kojima built his name on with Metal Gear Solid. In case you needed more proof Kojima is making a spiritual successor to the Metal Gear series, there you have it.

The cast is confirmed

PHYSINT's lead role goes to Bill Skarsgård, joined by Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe. Character and mechanical design comes from longtime Kojima collaborator Yoji Shinkawa, with Kojima himself credited on scenario, production, game design and direction.

“I'm delighted to confirm the lead role for PHYSINT will be Bill Skarsgård,” said Hideo Kojima. “We are both long-time fans of each other’s work, and we've decided to embark on this new adventure together. The costume fittings, scans, and camera tests we conducted with Bill and Charlee earlier this year gave me tremendous confidence in the direction of the project.”

The poster also credits MetaHuman and 3Lateral, both Epic Games-owned technologies used for high-fidelity digital human creation, suggesting PHYSINT is leaning on some of the same performance capture tools Epic has used on other high-profile productions.

Kojima's framing for the project

Kojima described PHYSINT as "the culmination of more than 40 years" of his career, aiming to redefine "action-espionage" in a way unbound by existing genre conventions. It's a big statement, but one that fits the scale Kojima has consistently attached to the project since its reveal.

PHYSINT is in development for Xbox, published in partnership with Kojima Productions. No release date has been confirmed.
