Destiny 2 Shadowkeep is approaching quickly and with it the first raid of the expansion, named Garden of Salvation. Meanwhile, players discovered a bug related to Jotunn, which resulted in Bungie disabling the weapon on expansion release until it's fixed.
Bungie are disabling Jotunn only for a while due to release of Garden of Salvation raid in Shadowkeep so there is no need to worry about losing an Exotic just yet. Even though the removal is not permanent, some players may find it odd that such a drastic measure was taken in the first place.
It is a special situation though, so Bungie are rather justified in what they . Namely, the bug related to Jotunn makes it have obscenely high damage output, provided a player gets close to an enemy and damages both of them. The damage may not kill the player but it will still dish out massive damage to the opponent.
On the other hand, players who rush into the face of the enemy tend to die anyway so the tactic was not optimal in all situations but it could still potentially be exploited against bosses since the damage would just melt them. There were 10 days left until Shadowkeep release at the time of writing and it's unclear how long it will take Bungie to fix Jotunn's abnormal damage but one should think all their focus is on releasing the expansion hitch-free.
As such, it is not really a surprise that Jotunn got disabled for the expansion launch instead of scrambling to fix it in last moments, which could prompt mistakes on launch itself and a generally worse experience for everyone.
World-first runs are a big deal in Destiny 2's hardcore community and having someone take the record due to a glitched weapon would be rather soul-crushing for those who attempted to be the first through skill and coordination.
Bungie's decision was met with positive responses as the community understood their reasoning, at least according to the voices of players on and . One comment is particularly important, highlighting that the weapon will indeed be and not just the raid.
