The developer of PS5 exclusive Returnal have decided to share more about the game's combat, weapons and various abilities that will be at player's disposal.

Returnal is one of those PS5 exclusives that will be coming in just a couple of months and that's why the developers of this action title, Housemarque, shared more details about the gameplay, combat, weapons and many other features that we will find in the game once it finally arrives.

Over on the official PlayStation Blog, Housemarque mention their trademark explosive arcade action, responsive controls and bullet hell which we got to experience in their earlier games.

"There will be fast and frenetic combat and intense gunplay, and also some rich exploration and traversal as you explore the procedurally generated environments of Atropos. We’ve created Returnal to be a challenging and rewarding experience, with enough variety and depth to keep you always coming back for one more go," the devs say in the blog post.

The game will feature ten base weapons with more than ninety weapon traits (each with three levels) and ten alternative fire modes. It's safe to say that Returnal will have numerous weapon combinations to test out on your journey.

Additionally, the devs mention a potential Souls mechanic where players lose experience points when they die. "For Selene, death is no escape. Each death sends Selene to the start of the time loop, just moments before crashing on the planet. Most abilities and items collected on the previous cycle will be lost…but not all of them. Some persist across sessions, so you’ll still make progress every cycle."

This certainly sounds interesting and we can't wait to see the mechanic in action.  The developers also explained how some loot will have both positive and negative effects on Selene so choose carefully when equipping/using certain items.

Returnal is officially hitting the shelves on March 19, 2020, for PlayStation 5.
