Avalanche's upcoming title Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action RPG, set in the Harry Potter universe, set to release soon. If you're looking forward to this one, there's plenty of info that's been shared by the devs already so here's a nice little breakdown of everything we know about the game.
Of course, more info and gameplay will be shared as we get closer to the release date of Hogwarts Legacy but for the time being, this is everything we know so far.
Hogwarts Legacy release date
Hogwarts Legacy is confirmed to be launching sometime during Holiday 2022. At the moment, there is no specific release date for the game.
Initially, Hogwarts Legacy was scheduled to launch in 2021 but it was eventually delayed since the team needed more time to develop the best possible experience.
Hogwarts Legacy confirmed platforms
WB Games confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy will be launching across all major platforms - PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
We don't have the specifics for performance targets but expect 4K / 60 FPS on current-gen consoles and 30 FPS on last-gen hardware.
System Requirements for PC are yet to be revealed.
Hogwarts Legacy story, setting and locations
The story will see players experience life as a student at the iconic Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It's set in the 1800s and follows a student who "holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart".
The story kicks off when the player character receives a late acceptance to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and discover they possess an ability to control Ancient Magic.
It's up to you then to decide if you will protect this secret or turn to the dark side and learn more sinister magic.
Before all that, you'll get to create your own character and pick your preferred House - Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin.

You'll soon find out that your ties to this ancient magic is putting you in danger and on a collision course with a goblin rebellion led by Ranrok, who is helped by the Dark wizard Victor Rookwood. Both will present formidable threats to the entire world.
Hogwarts Legacy is firmly rooted in the Harry Potter universe. It's a fresh new way of presenting the wizarding world while remaining true to J.K. Rowling’s original work.
In addition to Hogwarts School, some of the locations that players will get to visit include Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village.
Hogwarts Legacy gameplay and trailers
In Hogwarts Legacy players will have plenty of magic at their disposal, choosing to become the witch or wizard.
The game features a skill tree and allows you to grow your character's abilities and learn powerful spells and combat skills. Companions are also confirmed to help you take on some big and deadly enemies.
Avalanche also promise missions and scenarios where players will have to make difficult choices and determine "what they stand for".

We also know that Hogwarts Legacy will feature crafting, allowing players to brew potions that can increase the power of magic. It's not really a unique mechanic - you'll run around, gathering herbs and then mix those herbs into a potion. We've seen that in a couple of games already.
Of course, this doesn't mean such mechanic is bad or lame. This is a Harry Potter universe game after all and potions are very important at Hogwarts.
Talents are also another mechanic which allows you to level up your abilities by upgrading spells or potions to increase their power and effectiveness, respectively.
Of course, this doesn't mean such mechanic is bad or lame, especially since this is a Harry Potter universe game, potions are like, very important at Hogwarts.
Players will have to carefully pick the talents that best suit their playstyle and their preferred magic.
Talents include Stealth, which makes improves your ability to sneak around and Core, which improves your overall abilities, to name a few. The footage we got to see so far showed us a total of five talents but it's safe to say we'll get to see a lot more in the final version of the game.
And that's about everything that Avalanche and WB Games shared regarding Hogwarts Legacy so far. We will be updating this article with new details as the publisher share via the official channels.
